Who would have thought
learning to dance Argentine Tango would change my life. I took my first tango class in
November 1998. I never dreamed that 6 years later I would sell everything
I owned to move to Buenos Aires.
A passionate sensual dance with a rich history. Complicated and beautiful,
the tango became my passion. I became crazy for tango. An addict. I danced in Europe
and the U.S. In December 2000 I made the first of many trips to Buenos Aires.
I fell in love with Buenos Aires, not just for the tango, but for everything
Buenos Aires has to offer. Buenos Aires is a city of great culture. Not just
museums - but concerts, opera, theatre. wonderful architecture, beautiful streets,
and incredible people. The Argentines are the warmest and most affectionate people.
They love to argue, they enjoy their life. These are intellectual people who are nocturnal.
I finally found a whole city of people like me; crazy.
In 2004 my dear friend Peter Lewis died of cancer. He was a very special man. He was my most favorite
person to argue with. During one of the last heated discussions Peter made me promise that I would
move to Buenos Aires. He helped me as he had so many times before. It was through Peter I finally
realized that life is too short to not follow your heart.
I think as Americans we live too much to work. Work is the center of our lives.
My Argentine friends taught me that a rich person is a person who has their friends
and family. A rich person has love. A rich person enjoys life.
Enjoying life, taking time to actually do so.
I sold my house and pretty much everything I owned to start my life in Buenos Aires.
In December 2004 Roxie and I found ourselves immigrants in our new home in
South America. I have never had one day where I have regretted this move. Not one day
where I think "what the hell did I do?"
When I walk down the streets of my barrio in Palermo I always think how lucky I am to live here
and what a wonderful life I have. I do not have even close to the material things I had when
I lived in California. I have something better, I have something more important. I have the love and friendship
of people who have adopted me as their own. My life is full of good and wonderful things.
If you have ever had the fantasy to change your life and assume a new identity,
then maybe you will understand what I have done. I want to share my love of this wonderful city
with you. Stay with me in my beautiful apartment in Palermo. You can look out from the 17th floor
over the barrio Palermo - you can see the zoo, the botanical gardens, all the way to the river.
Whether you are a Tango dancer, here on business, or just want to visit Buenos Aires,
stay with me. I will make sure that you are comfortable and are able to enjoy my city.
